The Opportunity

Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. This role can be based anywhere in the UK.

You will play a key role in all aspects of hydropower projects, from feasibility studies and concept design to construction and commissioning. You will be responsible for leading the electrical engineering design of hydropower projects, including generators, control and instrumentation systems, protection, substations and transmission lines. You will perform design, model and analyse electrical and electronic systems to ensure project feasibility and compliance with industry standards.

As a Principal, you will take line management responsibility for some members of the team, support business growth and strategy development and be take ownership of project deliverables.

We work closely with the growing transmission and distribution business and there will also be opportunities to engage in the design and delivery of significant grid upgrade projects including new transmission lines and substations.

You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and collaborate with civil, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated project design.

About You

You will be a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the IET. Experience with large rotating machines (either generators or motors) is essential. Specific experience of hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is strongly desirable but is not essential. Electrical experience in other sectors, particularly elsewhere within the Energy and Water sectors is advantageous.

You will be experienced in producing and interpreting design drawings and documents including (to various levels of detail depending upon the project), single line diagrams, key line diagrams, block cable diagrams, calculations (e.g. for equipment sizing and fault ratings), load schedules, specifications and reports and be familiar with collaborative reviews and designs of solutions.

You will have strong communication skills to give technical presentations to clients and other design engineers as well as inputting into collaborative design discussions including technical workshops.
