Job summary

We are looking for a talented, experienced analyst to join the Data Transformation team within the Data Directorate at Companies House. As a data analyst in this exciting area, you will be responsible for working on data transformation projects and business improvements to support Companies House in achieving its strategic goals.

Companies House holds the largest source of administrative data about companies in the UK and forms a key input into many statistics and research into business and the economy.

This is an exciting time. Companies House in a period of organisation wide transformation. The use and interpretation of data is key to the success of this delivery and as such this role provides the post holder with a fantastic opportunity to help shape this.

This work requires strong data analysis and stakeholder engagement skills, a good understanding of data quality and governance. There will be opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the organization as well as the wider Civil Service to share best practice and ideas.

Through collaboration with members of the team as well as colleagues across the organisation, you will work to investigate and implement data quality initiatives. Working in a busy section, the post-holder must be flexible to support the delivery of competing priorities across the wider team.

This is a post which offers the opportunity to:�

Collaborate on shaping decision-making using data analysis within our services at Companies House.�Develop consultancy skills to make improvements to quality throughout the CH data estate.�Build on skills in managing internal and external stakeholder relationships, to align goals, understand and resolve technical issues and ensure delivery.�

You will be aligned to one of our offices in Cardiff, Edinburgh or Belfast, where we are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work. Our approach to hybrid working provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on business need, your role and your day-to-day work activities and will be discussed at offer stage.

Job description

The successful candidate will:�

1. Collaborate on the delivery of data analysis and improvements to data quality within service developments

This work will involve the development of data requirements to ensure that services are created with high quality data that informs service operational performance and other key analytical outputs.� A key responsibility will be to develop and continuously improve data quality metrics and reporting, managing the entire product lifecycle from initial customer engagement to obsolescence. There is a focus on efficient use of resources, scalability and high-quality execution.

2. Deliver short-term analytical projects

Applying analytical reasoning and technical expertise to commissions from service owners and project boards. There is a focus on root cause analysis, with action plans which help to identify practical ways to implement changes to systems and processes.

3. Influence stakeholders in the use of data and analysis to make decisions.

Working with projects and data owners to ensure data quality requirements are fully considered during new service development. Seek out opportunities to improve the perception of data quality internally and externally.��

4. Develop excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Good stakeholder management skills are essential to be able to explain complex, technical concepts and problems to non-technical colleagues. Work collaboratively with internal customers such as data engineers, business analysts, performance analysts, developers, architects, service managers and operational teams. Work with cross government data analysis teams to share good practice.

5. Seek out opportunities to continuously improve processes.

Collaborating on the identification and implementation of opportunities to improve and mature our processes and approach to work including the use of new technologies.

6. Create and maintain documentation

Document data and metadata standards and assets, workflows, monitor quality and create guidelines around the managed assets.�
