•Operates the telephone switchboard.
•Greets and directs visitors, collects information, and issues visitor badges while acting as a Department liaison.
•Completes Department forms as well as outside agency forms related to background/criminal history requests.
•Performs other Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) related assigned duties in a timely manner.
•Trains relief operators.
•Maintains a neat and presentable work area.

Minimum Qualifications

•Knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and proper usage of punctuation; of office practices, and procedures; and of manual and automated alphabetic, numeric, and other generally accepted filing systems.
•Skill in customer service and professional phone communications; in operating computers; and in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for the purposes of typing, data entry, drafting, and producing various documents.
•Demonstrated ability to prepare administrative reports and correspondence; to collect and assemble data and information; to enter and record data in various computer systems; to prioritize work assignments; to follow written and oral instructions; to apply general office policies and procedures; use standard office automated equipment (computers, printers, and fax machines, and learn the operation of office equipment as changes occur); to greet and assess the needs of visitors; to receive and route calls in a professional manner via a multi-line telephone switchboard; to disseminate information efficiently and accurately; to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English with internal and external customers and agencies; to multi-task as needed; to work independently and as a member of a team; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population of internal and external contacts, law enforcement and government agency representatives, and the general public.
•High school diploma or equivalency.
•Previous experience in office operations and/or customer service that includes telephone etiquette, data entry and document preparation using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation required.
•Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
