Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom The University of Edinburgh Full time

Full-time 35 hours per week

Fixed-term until April 2027

The Opportunity:

Childlight, a groundbreaking global child safety institute, has been established and embedded within the University of Edinburgh to take a data driven, evidence-based approach to better understand the prevalence and nature of child sexual exploitation and abuse globally. This data and analysis will be used by policy makers and practitioners across the world to make better informed decisions to safeguard children.

Childlight is seeking a Communications Manager, responsible for enhancing and building its reputation and influence with external audiences. The role requires balancing responses to media enquiries on key issues affecting Childlight, alongside the proactive promotion of Childlight research and activities, including through extensive stakeholder engagement, and delivering effective internal communications.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term until 30 April 2027. However, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote (within the UK) and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Significant media relations experience, including an understanding of the global operating environment and differing cultural and country contexts
  • Strong communications track record with proven ability to establish effective stakeholder relationships, ideally with experience of working with multi-sector programmes and global institutions
  • Experience of working across different cultural and country contexts
  • An excellent communicator, both written and verbal
  • A passion for making the world a better place and preventing child sexual abuse and exploitation, improving services, and safeguarding children
