Project Director for Summer Residential Course for Senior Religious Leaders

Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

Location: Oxford/hybrid

Hours: Part time (0.5 FTE)

Contract: 3 years 7 months

The College is the key partner in a new project to deliver a series of residential summer courses for senior religious leaders. These will seek to consolidate and build on the work of the Global Interfaith Commission on LGBT+ Lives (GIC+) to increase the number of senior religious leaders advocating to reduce the violence and discrimination of LGBT+ people and to support the decriminalisation of anti-LGBT+ laws in their home countries. The project will seek to create a sustainable 'Executive Summer School' model of encounter, education and empowerment that is scalable to meet demand, and will be a safe private forum that will foster dialogue between religious leaders on the issue of LGBT+ lives. These courses will be delivered in partnership with Oxford University's Department of Continuing Education, and funded by a grant from the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office.

Duties of the Project Director

  • Working with partners to ensure the successful delivery of a series of summer residential courses held in Oxford.
  • Working with the Academic Content Board for the Project in the development and delivery of the course.
  • Working with partners to produce video content for the course.
  • Working through others to ensure accommodation and travel for participants and contributors and all the details for a successful academic course are arranged.
  • Working to ensure a sustainable ongoing model for the course beyond the initial funding period.
  • Ensure that the project remains within budget.
  • Report to partners, including FCDO, as required.
  • Produce a research article that reflects the project in terms of the theory and practice of change.
  • While this is a 0.5 FTE post averaged over the year some flexibility will be required; the duration of the course in the summer and the time immediately before will require full-time commitment.

Person Specification and Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following in application and at interview:

Essential

  1. To be committed to the overarching aims of the project.
  2. To have, or to have submitted for, a PhD in a relevant field.
  3. Proven ability at conceptualising, designing and managing research projects.
  4. Proven track record in completing research outputs – peer review articles, reports, book chapters, books etc.
  5. Proven track record in managing a complex project, such as conferences, including people and finance.
