In this role, you will focus on providing specialist movement disorder services, including managing two movement disorder clinics per week (alternating between Deep Brain Stimulation and botulinum toxin clinics), conducting day-case movement disorder reviews, and performing movement disorder ward consultations. You will support the movement disorders multidisciplinary team and broader activities. The role also includes 1.5 general neurology clinics per week, with a monthly neurology hot-clinic replacing a general neurology clinic. For between two to four weeks per year, all your activities will be dedicated to providing cover to the general neurology ward.

The Department hosts a leading specialist service for Movement Disorders, delivering all three device-assisted therapies: Deep Brain Stimulation, Duodopa intestinal gel, and Apomorphine infusion. The service, delivered from the newly refurbished Bristol Brain Centre, covers all types of movement disorders from diagnosis to palliative care. The Bristol Brain Centre integrates clinical, research, and education spaces, combining NHS, University, and third-sector organizations to support our activities. Additionally, there are dedicated movement disorder in-patient beds within the Rosa Burden Unit.

As a consultant neurologist, you will join 23 consultant neurologists who collectively provide general neurology and a broad range of sub-specialist interests within the Department of Neurology at North Bristol NHS Trust. The clinical movement disorders group has an active programme of research and education, collaborating nationally and internationally. You will be expected to teach and participate in the movement disorders education programme and have opportunities to support and deliver movement disorders research.

The post holder will have the option to contribute to either a 1 in 10 stroke on-call, out-of-hours service, maintaining competence by providing approximately one DCC of stroke care within normal working hours, or a 1 in 13 neurology on-call service.
