Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - New Technology and Innovation

Salary: Circa £47,000 dependent on experience

Location: Bolton

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3-4 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

We are looking for an innovative and driven engineer to join the New Product Introduction team, delivering new technologies in our new products. This role will be primarily responsible for the development and proving of manufacturing technologies and the facilitation of innovation across manufacturing. The role involves the following:

  • Animation' of the Lab and innovation areas:
    • Participate in the daily activities of the Labs, providing support to people for their ideation, experimentation, & prototyping.
    • Help to stimulate ideas for improvement within manufacturing
    • Provide training to users in the use of equipment, manage consumables and carry out 1st level maintenance of the equipment.
    • Identify and secure loans for innovative supplier equipment to demonstrate capability and stimulate ideas
  • Participate in the promotion of the lab and access to services for conceptualizing ideas and prototyping. Eliciting stakeholder requirements and transforming into formal specification requirements.
  • Support IFT initiatives within Manufacturing. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify improvement opportunities (UK and group-level).
  • Expanding knowledge of leading-edge technologies, through literature studies and research.
  • Undertaking concept studies, options assessment, and investment decision proposals.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Role requirements (skills, training and qualifications):
    • Formal Technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3/TR23/TR21
    • AND
    • Formal further education certificate to HNC Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant subject
    • OR
    • BEng in relevant Engineering Degree
  • Also:
    • Mechanical/Electrical/Manufacturing engineer
    • Able to plan and execute work autonomously and manage multiple projects
    • Facilitate workshops and support idea generation
