Salary: UH6 £31,396 pa to £37,099 pa by annual increments

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Main duties and responsibilities

The Teaching Fellow (Academic Support Unit) will develop and deliver a range of academic skills support sessions and resources for students in LMS disciplines, coordinate practical sessions, workshops and events where appropriate and assist with the coordination and preparation of teaching and learning activities. You will provide guidance and academic support to students who have been referred to the Unit through the Academic Misconduct service, support student engagement activities within LMS which may include community events and social media marketing as appropriate and implement strategies formed by the ASU Leads, Associate Deans and Deputy Deans to support home and international students in LMS.

You will undertake a range of general academic administrative duties within the ASU including data collection and management, creating e-learning documentation and contributing to social media where appropriate, provide academic and pastoral support to students within the School of LMS and work, as appropriate, with the key providers of central support services at the University (e.g. Careers and Employment, Herts Academic Skills, Wellbeing, Office of the Dean of Students etc.) and enhancing student awareness of and engagement with those central services.

You will be responsible for the production, preparation and presentation of materials for meetings and ASU events, ensuring all appropriate policies and procedures are adhered to and recording proceedings and actions in a written format as required. You will attend and support colleagues at Open Days, Induction events and other relevant activities to promote LMS disciplines and programmes. You will provide appropriate support and guidance to casual staff members and/or student ambassadors in the ASU and conduct any such other duties as may be required by the Associate Dean/Dean of School.

Skills and experience required

The successful candidate will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in a relevant discipline in STEM subjects allied to Life and Medical Sciences, have an appreciation of the educational needs of students and an understanding of students' prior learning experiences and how these might influence their current educational expectations. You will also have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, be proficient in the English Language and have the ability to deal with conflicting demands and priorities. Experience of working in Higher Education (HE) and relevant experience teaching or support students at HE level are desirable for this role.

Qualifications required

Educated with a minimum of a Master's degree (Completed or close to completion) or equivalent Level 7 qualification in a STEM subject allied to Life and Medical Sciences.
