The Emotional Support Worker will be based within our Family Support Team, working with children and young people (up to 21 years of age), who have a wide range of support needs.

You will be responsible for providing emotional and practical support to a case load of young people with Mental Health needs, including facilitating groups and activity sessions. The role will involve working across different locations, such as schools and Children's Centres, and in close partnership with Social Workers, Family Support Workers, Mental Health Services and Pastoral and Inclusion Workers. The Emotional Support Worker will also be a key contact for other BIA staff in terms of providing advice and support in relation to Children and Young People's mental health needs and referral pathways.

Hours of Work: 36 hours per week; fixed term for 2 years
Salary: £26,250 per annum

Qualifications and training:

We feel that experience in a related area, along with personal characteristics and skills, is more important than formal qualifications for this role: however, applicants with a relevant degree and/or a professional qualification, in addition to experience, will be particularly welcome.

Experience:

At least two years experience of working with people who have a range of support needs (in a paid or voluntary capacity)

Personal effectiveness:

Able to take initiative and work autonomously as well as working collaboratively as part of a team
Conform to standards of dress which reflect a professional service
Full UK Driving licence and use of own car.

Desirable
Experience of working with children and young people
Experience of working with people who have mental health needs
Knowledge of mental health policy and legislation plus referral pathways

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Working in a way that recognises and values diversity and inclusion, the Emotional Support Worker will:
1. Provide key worker support to a specified number of individuals, including one to one support and liaison with other mental health agencies on behalf of people who use our services
2. Enable individuals to self-manage their personal and domestic resources and to undertake the activities of daily living
3. Develop a rapport with individuals based on respect and honesty; the post holder will at all times work within clear professional boundaries and the BIA Code of Conduct
4. Enable and encourage individuals to find out about local services and facilities within their community and facilitate access to alternative services where specific needs are identified
5. Be familiar with individual Care/Recovery Plans and support people who use our services in achieving their goals
6. Carry out all needs assessments, individual safety and support planning within organisational and legislative requirements.
7. Work with individuals in developing, reviewing, monitoring and adapting their support and safety plans
8. Contribute to the protection of service users from the risk of abuse and harm to self and others
9. Monitor and report to senior staff on the effectiveness of support delivery
10. Encourage individuals to recognise, understand and manage factors that affect their mental wellbeing and physical health
11. Increase choice and involvement of individuals and family members
12. Work as a team member, sharing information and supporting colleagues.
13. Participate in the monitoring requirements of the service by providing statistical and qualitative information on activities, success stories and outcomes achieved
14. Maintain accurate records as required by policies and procedures, using appropriate paper and electronic systems.
15. Engage with community events, meetings and forums to promote the service and BIA in general
16. Work with the team to ensure the service-specific lone working procedure is adhered to at all times and regularly reviewed for effectiveness
17. Ensure effective incident and complaint recording including reporting information to the service manager
18. Proactively contribute to continuously improving the service by making positive suggestions, providing constructive feedback and assisting in the implementation of agreed new ways of working.
19. Support individuals to express their satisfaction with the opportunities they have accessed by submitting comments, compliments or complaints
