Job Purpose:

Accountable to the Governing Body, working effectively with the Chair of Governors and the Headteacher and other governors, with responsible for advising the Governing Body on constitutional matters, duties and powers and will work within the broad current legislative framework. Securing the continuity of governing body business and observing confidentiality requirements.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Advise and support the Governing Body on governance legislation and procedural matters, before, during and after the full Governing Body meeting.
  • Draft a contemporaneous record of governing body meetings, including all decisions made both accurately and objectively with timescales to indicate responsibility for each agreed action.
  • Maintain an archive record of all minutes of Governing Body meetings
  • Chair that part of the Governing Body meeting at which the Chair is elected.
  • Maintain copies of current terms of reference, names, addresses and category of governing body members and their terms of office, and membership of committees and working parties and nominated governors, e.g. literacy.
  • Ensure that a current and appropriate DBS is in place for all governors and monitor attendance at mandatory training.
  • Maintain files of archive materials including minutes and GB correspondence plus relevant Welsh Government, LEA and Church Authorities (if appropriate) documents.

Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Good general standard of education up to A level /NVQ level 3 in a related subject such as Business Administration, Public Services or equivalent with work experience in a similar role in an educational setting
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Evidence of ICT competence, in the use of Word, or similar school management systems
  • Proven experience of managing a complex workload with the ability to balance conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of the organisation and administration structure of primary and secondary schools
  • Awareness of child protection issues and data protection legislation
  • Existing knowledge of Governing Body procedures and legislation
  • Proven experience of dealing with members of the community, representatives from the LEA and contractors
  • Experience of relating to people across the social spectrum and knowledge of discrimination issues
  • Evidence of the ability to think strategically, plan and evaluate
  • Attention to detail and good organisation skills
  • Awareness of HR procedures, teachers' pay, support staff pay structures and staff terms and conditions
  • A valid DBS disclosure is required for this post and will be undertaken prior to appointment
  • Welsh Language skills
