As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.

We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a Category Administrator, on a full time, permanent basis based in Birmingham.

The focus of the role will be to support a range of procurement category activities within the Team contributing to the delivery of an efficient and effective procurement service in order to meet the demands of an ambitious tendering and compliance programme.

What does the job involve?

  • Produce and control the administrations of uniforms, vehicles, and mobile phones, managing the control of stock.
  • Manage and conduct low risk tender or quotation activity for goods, services, and one-off purchases
  • Support Category Managers with activities arising from the tendering cycle, from the creation of PO's through the Financial system to provide compliance to policies and procedures
  • Create and maintain auditable and transparent records and reports to meet internal and external management information and compliance requirements.
  • Process new supplier requests received from colleagues within WMT ensuring the Procurement Policy is adhered to and existing contracts are utilized.
  • Management and Governance of the contracts database to ensure that contracts remain valid, and any contractual breaches are identified and resolved.

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • A level qualified or equivalent experience
  • Studying or willing to study towards Professional Diploma Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
  • Experience of working within a Procurement Environment is desirable
  • Team player with the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders internally and externally to the business. Adaptable to business change.
  • Experience on delivering high quality customer service
  • Experience of working with a governance framework as well as good level of knowledge in ICT systems, including e-procurement systems and Microsoft suite
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, e.g. ability to communicate at all levels in the organisation
