What is the opportunity?

As the regional head of Derivatives Confirmations, you will mitigate legal, operational, economic, regulatory, and reputational risk associated with derivatives transactions while ensuring you and your team provide quality service to our internal business partners and external clients and represent the Bank in a professional manner at all times.

This role is part of the global Market & Business Services Derivatives Confirmation Group that covers asset classes including Credit, Commodities, Equities, FX, Rates, and any hybrids thereof. As such, this mandate may be subject to change in accordance with evolving business needs.

What will you do?

Ensure structured derivative transactions are documented promptly in accordance with:

  • regulatory guidelines (e.g., Dodd-Frank & EMIR) and applicable laws (871(m) U.S. HIRE Act)
  • market practice in the Bank Dealer world;
  • ISDA Definitions; and
  • the bank's relevant Standing Orders, business process flows and procedures;
  • Advise/liaise with Sales and Trading (and Legal, Compliance, Tax, and Trading Documentation Group, as appropriate) to negotiate with counterparties/clients on documentation-related issues (pre-deal and post-deal) and trade structuring, ensuring such terms risks to the Bank; and are acknowledged and understood by all stakeholders (including SPBS).
  • Ensure team draft accurate confirmations and bilaterally execute them per regulatory timelines by reviewing and facilitating new transactions through to execution, inclusive of collating all internal sign-offs and timely escalating and resolving any lengthy delays related to confirmation execution.
  • Anticipate and facilitate new business initiatives and industry developments *eg regulatory, IBOR Reform, BREXIT, USD T+1 settlement cycle migration), which will entail researching and building trade/trade confirmation workflows, conducting detailed analyses, pulling and analyzing metrics, and drafting procedures whilst partnering with QTS, other pillars of BCS, Compliance, etc. as required.
  • Deliver on BCS- and MBS-driven requirements. Typically, these requirements include the creation and analysis of metrics, raising and remediating operational risk events, setting business goals for the team, and preparing data and decks for ad hoc requests that come through.
  • Managerial duties entail: Upskilling staff through regular coaching and feedback as well as recruiting, retaining and developing top talent. Also partnering with the Derivatives Confirmations NY Head to support cross-training and of staff in different locations, as required,

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Extensive industry experience with strong knowledge / understanding of capital markets operations.
  • Solid understanding of the ISDA documentation framework and several years structured notes & products experience.
  • Strong communication and escalation skills.
  • A good understanding, constant vigilance, and mitigation of legal, operational, economic, regulatory, market, counterparty, credit and reputational risk.
  • Strong metrics production (Excel, Tableau, etc.) and analytical skills and high level of numeracy
  • A calm, logical, and disciplined approach to managing competing priorities, problem solving, and housekeeping

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with ISDA Documentation
  • Infinity, Murex, Sophis & Workflow familiarity, MarkitWire.
  • Good familiarity with the various processes involves in confirmation as well as support systems.
  • Ability to prepare a wide range of legal documents for financial transactions
