ABOUT MS AUL

MS AUL is a reinsurance franchise at Lloyd's, part of our global reinsurance business (London, Zurich, Bermuda, Miami, New Jersey and Singapore). Following the recent underwriting strategy review (link), we will now operate a specialty business at Lloyd's, bringing together our M&A and P&C International businesses to form part of a global specialty franchise across London, the Middle East, the Far East and continental Europe.

The MS Amlin business wrote approximately ?3.7bn of GWP in 2019, of which approximately 55% was placed via the Lloyd's platform through Syndicate 2001, one of the largest Lloyd's syndicates. Syndicate 2001 is a diverse underwriting business operating across a number of UK and overseas locations. MS AUL is the Lloyd's managing agency which directs and manages the affairs of Syndicate 2001. MS AUL is wholly owned by Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group and is regulated by the PRA, FCA and Lloyd's.

Syndicate 2001's book is split into two main business areas: Specialty and Reinsurance. Specialty comprises 5 departments (Property, Casualty, Marine, Natural Resources and Crisis Management) and Reinsurance covers a mix of property, casualty and specialty lines.

The Specialty business forms part of a global specialty franchise across London, the Middle East, the Far East and continental Europe. MS AUL also operates as part of a global reinsurance franchise with offices in London, Zurich, Bermuda, Miami, New Jersey and Singapore.

MS AUL is estimated to write c.?1.5bn of GWP in 2020, split approximately a third Reinsurance and two-thirds Specialty.

ABOUT THE JOB

Job purpose

The role reports to the Head of MS AUL Capital and Performance Modelling and will be responsible for delivery of capital and performance modelling output. Output is required for business and regulatory purposes.

The role requires understanding and experience of capital modelling. In addition to technical capabilities the roleholder also needs to possess excellent communication and influencing skills and the ability to draw links between technical modelling and real world outcomes.

You can help MS Amlin to achieve this by:

  • Managing the production of model output for a range of stakeholder requirements, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of output at all times
  • Managing model parameterisation processes to ensure updates are appropriate
  • Managing ongoing regulatory compliance of model methodology, inputs and outputs
  • Producing and reviewing model documentation to support uses and regulatory compliance, including for external parties
  • Communicating all aspects of modelling to a range of stakeholders, with particular emphasis on the links between modelling and the real world risk profile
  • Supporting the Head of MS AUL Capital and Performance Management in developing and delivering capital modelling strategy including, but not limited to, consideration of the benefits of a group or company model, as well as modelling platform
  • Managing model development plans to ensure these are delivered on time and support model use improvements
  • Collaborating with all areas of the Amlin business to ensure robust model development and use of output, developing trusted relationships based on transparency and high quality of analysis
  • Managing the work and development of analysts within the team
  • Actively contributing to the actuarial team culture of high performance and inclusivity

What we need from you:

Technical

  • Understanding and experience of capital modelling tools and business processes
  • Technical insurance knowledge
  • Actuarial skills - qualification as Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or equivalent
