The role

Working as part of the Veterinary Nursing Team at Bristol Veterinary School, the role holder will assist with the internal quality assurance processes linked to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Veterinary Nursing Day One Skills, including monitoring competence decisions made by Clinical Supervisors, and ensuring external auditing requirements of the RCVS are met. The post holder will oversee the allocation and monitoring of Veterinary Nursing external clinical placements which are held within RCVS training practices.

What will you be doing?

  • Coordinate the placement allocations for students undertaking external clinical placements in RCVS training practices.
  • Assisting with student recruitment events, for example Post-Offer Visit Days and Open Days.
  • Monitoring the progress of veterinary nursing students during clinical placements through phone calls and visits, to support their learning and practical achievements.
  • Setting up and examining Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) for the veterinary nursing students.
  • Contribute to and assist with the twice-yearly standardisation meetings for those involved in clinical training, both for Langford Vets and local placement practices
    Attend internal Centre meetings.
  • Organise and prioritise own work activities to deliver to tight and potentially competing deadlines on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinate Internal quality assurance communications in a timely and efficient manner to facilitate a prompt and satisfactory process for all concerned parties.
    Assisting with developing and delivering teaching sessions that support student NPL progression and clinical placements, to include evaluating the timetable for delivery of these sessions
  • Support students and associated documentations as part of acting as a personal tutor and clinical tutor.
  • Develop and update the IQA process to comply with the RCVS requirements
    Carry out Training Practice (TP) visits and monitoring for allocated TP's, filling in all the appropriate documentation.
  • Communicate with the VN placements team, to include developments of the combined teamwork and updating documents to be sent out to practices.

You should apply if

You are a registered veterinary nurse, experienced at supporting student veterinary nurse training as a clinical supervisor, with a demonstratable knowledge of the RCVS Day One Skills and Competences. You will need excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage you own workload. While working in a collegial culture, you should be able demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with colleagues.
