This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated teaching professional to become part of Sunderland's well regarded Autism Outreach Team (AOT), which is part of Together for Children's SEND Specialist Support Service.


We are seeking to recruit an outstanding classroom practitioner who is experienced in teaching pupils with Autism in a mainstream or specialist setting.

The successful candidate must have a proven track record in delivering person-centred learning to Autistic students, including those with complex needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of an experienced and dedicated team working in a progressively forward-thinking service who are passionate about enabling children and young people with Autism to thrive.


Successful candidates will be expected to carry out detailed observations of pupils and to produce clear, evidence-based reports with specific recommendations and advice that will enable children and young people to reach their full potential in their educational setting.

You will also be expected to develop or deliver training, support with writing effective SEND support plans and to model Autism specific approaches to school staff.

In addition, your role will include supporting SENDCos, Head Teachers and Governors to develop effective and inclusive whole school approaches for Autism.

At the heart of this role though is the opportunity to play a key part in leading our AOT Breathing Space Project offer, a unique short break respite to support children and young people with a diagnosis of Autism who are at risk of suspension or exclusion through after school and holiday provision.


The Autism Outreach Team safeguards and protects its pupils and staff by being committed to respond in accordance with the Together for Children's Safeguarding Policies.

This position requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.
