Deputy Nursery Manager

Job Type: 6-month temporary role, extendable up to 12 months or conversion to permanent

Dedicated to providing child-care and education since 1896 and conveniently situated on the main Halifax road overlooking the picturesque Shibden Valley, our client's spacious schoolhouse has been especially designed and remodelled to create a warm, homely, loving and nurturing environment for your 21 st century child.

The Role

To work as a professional Deputy Manager, providing quality care and to be responsible for the children's care and safety on a daily basis.

To manage the nursery in the absence of the Nursery Manager in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage and company policies.

To be responsible for supervising all practitioners, trainees and volunteers within the setting.

To work in accordance with the Welfare requirements / Early Years Foundation Stage and Every Child Matters.

To promote the nursery positively

Work as a team player, co-operatively and with flexibility.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work as a deputy leader, leading the team.

Open/close and fully manage the setting in the absence of the nursery manager.

Working closely with the nursery manager and senior practitioners taking lead in the running of the setting as a whole.

To achieve and maintain high standards of care.

To assist the nursery manager in effectively leading and managing the staff team including providing day-to-day guidance, supervision, mentoring, and training and support to all colleagues.

Ensuring that records are updated and maintained at a high standard throughout the setting.

Adhering to Health and Safety policies, maintaining risk assessments, and relevant documentation.

Working in partnership with parents/carers to best support children's care and development.

Liaise with external agencies to assist in obtaining advice, guidance, and intervention to support children and their families within the setting.

Recruiting employees and providing ongoing training in best care practices

Arranging marketing materials

Monitoring the condition of the facility and equipment and organising maintenance, repairs and new items as required

Answering enquiries about enrolment, payments and practices

Developing and implementing an age-appropriate program of events and activities

Preparing the nursery for Ofsted inspections and following inspector recommendations.

Be familiar with and follow HSE requirements, SFBB, COSHH and all company polices.

Speak up against practices that don't support safeguarding or their core values.

Ensure the effective and regular removal of waste materials to the designated waste storage area.

Communicate clearly and diplomatically with colleagues, staff and customers at all levels and make decisions relating to the catering service provided on-site.

Dependable, flexible, self-reliant, trustworthy, pro-active and self-motivated with the ability to motivate others. Cool and calm under pressure. Flexible in understanding and dealing with others but tough enough to see issues through.

Ability to deal with unforeseen problems and circumstances. Capable of accepting responsibility and accountable for own actions, and of staff under their control.

Attend staff meetings and training as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Must be at least Level 3 qualified in a UK recognised early years qualification.

Excellent understanding of EYFS.

Extensive knowledge of safeguarding.

Leadership experience within a nursery setting.
