St. Pierre's Old Course is one of the best parkland layouts in the country, and is a recognized tournament host, having welcomed the top LPGA professionals for the Solheim Cup in 1996. The course has matured nicely into a genuine challenge for even the best golfers, with some particularly memorable holes. A round on the old reaches a crescendo with the superb closing two, where golfers must negotiate the 17th green, almost surrounded by an expansive water hazard, and the final hole's difficult elevated green.

Our Mathern Course, although considerably shorter than the Old, is an extremely enjoyable layout. It is parkland in style, but players must also tackle the mature trees that provide obstacles on many holes. Opened in 1975, the Mathern continues to delight visitors with some very good golf, and even better views of the surrounding Monmouthshire countryside.

The impact you'll make

When a golfer walks onto the first tee – imagine that first look they take ready to set up a shot on a perfectly cut tee. Followed by that sigh of relief as their ball flows straight down the immaculate fairway, avoiding the perfectly raked bunker and landing on an outstanding putting surface.

What you'll do

  • Prepare the golf course for play to the highest standards on a daily basis
  • Spraying and disease control
  • Construction, aeration, drainage and turfing works
  • Operate a wide range of golf course machinery
  • Undertake specific training on machinery and other working practices
  • Have knowledge of and adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures

What we're looking for

  • A team-first attitude
  • A gift for paying attention to the smallest details
  • An early bird – with early starts you will get to watch the sun come up
  • Minimum 1 year of previous greenkeeping experience – NVQ L2 Sports Turf
  • Be happy to work independently
  • Hold a full clean UK driving license
  • Mechanical experience – servicing and repairing machinery, advantageous but not essential
  • PA 1,2 & 6 spraying certificates, advantageous but not essential
