Position Type: Term-time only, Part-time : 17 hours per week, flexible arrangements possible

We are seeking a passionate and creative Arts and Design Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in visual arts and design, with experience teaching primary and secondary school students. This role involves teaching 4 hours per week of visual arts to primary school students, 3 hours per week of visual arts to Year 7/8/9 secondary students, and 3 hours per week of design to Year 7/8/9 students. The remaining time will be spent on prep and maintaining the art studio. The successful candidate will inspire and engage students in exploring their creativity, developing their artistic skills, and fostering their passion for art and design.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary teaching (4 teaching hours per week):

Plan and deliver engaging visual arts lessons to primary school students, focusing on fostering creativity, imagination, and artistic expression.Develop age-appropriate curriculum and teaching materials that align with the school's objectives and curriculum standards.Provide guidance and support to students in exploring various art techniques, media, and styles.Encourage students to experiment with different artistic processes and develop their own unique artistic voice.Assess student progress through regular evaluations, feedback, and constructive criticism.Collaborate with colleagues to integrate art and design into projects and school events.Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves creatively.Secondary teaching (6 teaching hours per week):Design and implement a comprehensive art and a comprehensive design curriculum aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme framework.Develop unit plans, lesson plans, and assessment strategies that integrate key concepts, global contexts, and approaches to learning (ATL) skills specified by the MYP.Ensure that curriculum materials and teaching methods cater to the diverse learning needs and cultural backgrounds of students within the MYP age range.Incorporate interdisciplinary connections between art and design and other subject areas within the MYP to promote holistic learning experiences.Facilitate meaningful inquiry-based learning experiences that allow students to investigate relevant issues, themes, and concepts through art and design.Provide regular feedback, guidance, and encouragement to students to help them reflect on their artistic processes, improve their work, and set goals for personal growth.Design authentic and varied assessment tasks that assess students' understanding, skills development, and conceptual thinking in art and design within the MYP framework.Use formative assessment techniques, such as peer critique, self-assessment, and portfolio reviews, to monitor student progress and provide timely feedback for improvement.Administer summative assessments, including projects, presentations, and written reflections, to evaluate students' achievement of MYP art and design objectives and criteria.Maintain accurate records of student assessment data and use assessment data to inform instructional planning, curriculum adjustments, and student support strategies in the MYP art and design program.Incorporate real-world examples and industry practices into design lessons to prepare students for future academic and career pursuits.Stay updated on current trends, technologies, and developments in the field of art and design education.Any other supportive duties as reasonably requested by the Head of School. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check in addition to other vetting checks and will also must be able to provide satisfactory references. All school staff complete Safeguarding training, both during induction and on an ongoing basis.

Please Note: Due to the outdoor element of the school there are physical demands of this role. The work is practical by definition and moderate levels of physical effort. It involves lifting and handling of training equipment, play equipment and other resources and to be involved in practical activities and physical care of learners and the environment. Activities are mainly out of doors and this will require walking and managing on uneven surfaces and in unpredictable weather conditions. You are required to be a role model for the staff and learners you work with, adhering to the Health & Safety procedures.
