Carbon Engineering, a subsidiary of Oxy, is a Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology provider with a mission to develop technology that captures CO2 directly out of the atmosphere at megatonne scale. We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Director of European Policy within our Climate Policy group, based in London, UK.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The Director of European Policy is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for overseeing and directing climate policy and carbon market initiatives within the EU and UK regions. This role involves a deep understanding of regional policies, regulations, and market dynamics related to climate and carbon mitigation.

The primary objective is to advance policy creating the business case for DAC development. You will serve as a key interface between policy makers, external stakeholders, and the business, focusing on policies within the EU, UK, and other carbon market initiatives related to DAC with geologic CO2 storage and the use of DAC CO2 in products such as fuels, such as integrating removals into compliance markets.

This role also focuses on helping EU and UK stakeholders to recognize the value in sourcing from international projects, including economic development through supply chain opportunities, cost savings, and the potential for an accelerated path to achieve regional climate targets.

EU and UK Policy Advocacy Strategy: Design and execute a policy advocacy strategy aligned with the business strategy. This will include active lobbying efforts in Brussels and London and maintaining a presence as the face of the company's advocacy efforts.

Relationship Building: Build and nurture relationships with key Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to support policy advocacy. Engage directly with policy makers, stakeholders, NGOs, industry groups, and think tanks. Play a leading role in developing responses to industry consultations and participate in industry association groups. Cultivate strong relationships with government authorities, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders in the EU and UK.

International Collaboration: Collaborate to support international climate policy frameworks, including Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

Ensure seamless integration of regional efforts with the overall Climate Policy group.

Lead policy development for specific member-states that are advancing climate policies (e.g. Germany)

Gather and provide policy intelligence from the EU and UK markets regarding regional policy developments, legislative changes, and market trends.

Support the business development team in their work to secure carbon removal credit sales agreements, project investments, and EU and UK supply chain engagement.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required.

A minimum 7 years of relevant industry or policy experience.

Prior experience in energy, climate change, or sustainability roles. Brings established network with stakeholders in energy and climate organizations, industry, and governments.

Deep understanding of EU, EU member state, UK, and international-level political and policy-making processes.

Experience working on policy in the UK and/or EU.

Fluency in English is required and fluency in another European language is an asset for this role.

Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following: Emissions reduction technologies, carbon capture and/or carbon removal, energy markets, carbon markets, environmental economics, climate policy.

Demonstrated ability to successfully work collaboratively in teams and with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders located around the world.

Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.

Ability to distill complex information into clear takeaways and recommendations.

Effective management of external relationships, particularly with key regional NGOs.

Comfort in delivering formal presentations to management and senior stakeholders.

Adaptability to ambiguous, ever-changing situations.
