We are hiring for a Yard Operative to undertake various manual handling tasks in Sherburn in Elmet. This role involves 20% forklift driving and 80% manual labour, and is based in a dynamic environment with one of the UK's largest staging and structures providers. You will be a vital part of our team, helping to ensure the smooth running of operations, whether it s loading/unloading trailers, picking items, or general yard maintenance.

Duties of a Yard Operative

As a Yard Operative, you will be working as part of the Logistics team and will be responsible for:

  • Occasional operating a forklift for loading/unloading purposes
  • Moving boxes and equipment
  • Loading and unloading trailers according to pick lists
  • Sorting, picking, and tidying materials
  • General yard labour tasks

Skills and Experience of a Yard Operative

As a Yard Operative, you should have experience with:

  • An Industrial B1 Counterbalance Forklift, though this is not essential as the company provides in-house training
  • Manual handling and general labour duties
  • Working in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of construction or scaffolding (advantageous but not essential)

It would be beneficial to the Yard Operative role if you also had:

  • Good communication skills, particularly in written and verbal English
  • Access to reliable transport, as the client s site is accessible via car, public transport, walking, or cycling
  • The ability to work well within a team
  • Strong organizational skills

About the Client

Our client, a leading provider of staging and structures, has delivered projects for events like the London Olympics 2012, Commonwealth Games 2014, and many more. They are seeking Yard Operatives to join their team on a temporary basis, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidates.
