Job description
Sheffield is a brilliant city – resourceful, inventive, welcoming – a place rooted in its history and ambitious for the future. It's a place full of potential and we are determined to create a council that works in partnership with residents, communities, and partners to unleash that potential.
Here in Sheffield, we are determined to give every resident, family and child, and young person a better quality of life. We want to reduce inequality, increase early intervention, provide all children with the best start and support families and adults.
In this role you will work as part of the leadership team in the Public Health and Integrated Commissioning Directorate - with a focus on strategic commissioning and planning. Your role will involve all aspects of commissioning and planning, including joint commissioning, strategic partnerships, quality improvement and market development.
Day to day, you'll be managing sizeable budgets, delivering effective services, commissioning both national and local programmes/services and guiding a team of commissioners and contract managers. With the help of skilled staff and supportive peer network, you'll work to ensure excellent quality, commissioning of robust services that meet need and improve the health and wellbeing of residents. This will involve heading up key change programmes, so you must be a senior leader who can inspire and energise others.
Degree-educated (or equivalent), you'll have a proven track record in commissioning services in education, health, the voluntary sector or social care. Your experience covers commissioning, contracts, procurement, and commercial and voluntary sector development. Experience across Children's Services, Education and the NHS is key. Crucially, you can manage quality, performance and resources, secure value for money and connect quickly with people and partners.
We have two Assistant Director roles available which are
Education & Child Care Commissioning
Children & Families Commissioning
