As an NHS Payroll Specialist, you will oversee the complete payroll process and ensure auto-enrollment compliance for a portfolio of clients. You will build strong relationships with your clients and maintain effective communication with the wider offices, HMRC, and other third-party providers. Additionally, you will collaborate with the broader team to review work produced by junior team members and support the Payroll Manager.

Description

Payroll Specialist:

Manage end-to-end payroll and auto enrolment compliance for clients
- Handle all tasks associated with payroll processing to completion
- Build relationships with clients and ensure effective communication with offices, HMRC, and third-party providers
- Accurately process pension deductions per NHS policies and stay updated on NHS pension legislation
- Liaise with NHS Pensions Online and GP Practices/NHS organizations to resolve queries and manage contributions
- Ensure accurate monthly balances and contributions to NHS pensions
- Review work by junior team members and support the Payroll Manager
- Lead by example in attitude and payroll processing, and assist the team with queries
- Conduct regular training on legislation and systems
- Handle ad-hoc duties, projects, and develop financial and operational reports as needed

Profile

Payroll Specialist:

Over two years of NHS payroll experience (bureau experience desirable)
- End-to-end payroll processing, including pensions, benefits, and statutory payments
- Knowledge of NHS Pension tiered contributions and online administration (SD55 updates, AW8, RF12, Starters, Leavers)
- Familiarity with Agenda for Change and Medical/Dental terms and conditions (desirable)
- Ability to manually calculate payroll
- High accuracy and attention to detail in manual and systems-based work
- Strong coordination, prioritization, and multitasking skills with minimal supervision
- Customer-focused, able to handle queries via phone and email
- Adaptable to a highly changeable environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, processing, and auto-enrollment regulations
- Effective client management and staff management experience
- Experience in mentoring and coaching team members
- Ideally, CIPP Foundation degree qualification or working towards it
