About this opportunity

The Capital Programme team is responsible for the core delivery of the Council's c.£80m - £100m/year Capital Programme developing projects which make a real 'on the ground' difference to our communities, places and people in Westmorland and Furness. On a daily basis the programme develops and maintains new council buildings including care homes, schools, community centres and offices; construct's and maintains highways and cycleways; builds new flood defences and drives the council's internal decarbonisation programme for its services.

This role will be responsible for oversight of commercial and surveying matters on projects / contracts up to £20million. The role will help to deliver highways programmes of work including major infrastructure pipeline projects in Westmorland and Furness.

We are looking for a self-reliant and driven individual who has excellent knowledge of Quantity Surveying or Commercial Programme / Project Management who can apply their expertise in an infrastructure or building related discipline. If you are part way through or nearing the end of your career and looking for a new opportunity, or a change in work environment this job may be a great opportunity.

Candidates with experience of quantity surveying, civil engineering or contract management would be well suited to this role. Whilst the job is advertised as full time, candidates who can work alternative work patterns i.e., part time, term time or flexible hours are encouraged to get in touch to discuss via the details below.

With light touch support from the Capital Programme Control Manager candidates will provide commercial and surveying input for major contracts or multiple smaller contracts at any or all programme life-cycle stages from initial feasibility to completion and asset handover. The candidate will be used to standard forms of contract (e.g., NEC) and should be used to managing supplier relationships in commercial settings where public money is being spent, often under grant funding conditions. Candidates may be asked to be a line manager or mentor for junior colleagues.
