Equity Analyst

The Role

To work as part of a team generating outperforming equity investment ideas, producing research notes detailing their investment cases, communicating guidance to investment managers and covering sectors on a global basis.

Outcomes of the Role
  • Recommend stocks which outperform, secure buy-in from investment managers, and act as strong Rathbones corporate citizens, helping investment managers wherever possible
  • Generate stock ideas and make recommendations to the Equities Committees, with the aim of driving outperformance and satisfying client requirements regarding style and income exposure, supported by high quality due diligence research notes on the investment case and financial models.
  • Responsibility for equity research across sectors globally, alongside thematic research
  • Full integration of ESG in consideration of risks and opportunities for all companies
  • Present on stock ideas in a variety of forums (weekly Tuesday investment meeting, morning meetings, cloud/office meetings, equities lunches and sector reviews) as well as on an ad hoc basis, in order to demonstrate conviction and encourage investment manager buy-in
  • Answer investment manager queries and advise on stocks
  • Act as an advocate for the Research team, investment process and recommendations
  • Where relevant (and after training) act as subject matter expert in client meetings or external communications
    Knowledge, Skills and Experience
    • Equity analysis - researching and constructing an investment case, ESG analysis and understanding of financial materiality, financial analysis and modelling skills, and proficiency with valuation methodologies including discounted cash flow analysis.
    • Communication skills - both presentational to larger audiences, and also one-to-one answering specific concerns, and also written.
    • Diplomacy and ability to manage internal and external stakeholders
    • Screening for ideas
    • Mentoring less experienced analysts and investment managers and sharing equity analysis insights
    • Experience of equity analysis.
    • CFA level 3 qualification or equivalent.
    • CFA ESG certificate (or working towards it)
