All children and young people who are looked after by Solihull Local Authority are part of the OVOS community. OVOS encourages and supports children and young people to have their say.
We are looking to appoint Support Workers who are enthusiastic and passionate about changing the lives of young people (0 – 25 years old) who have been in the care of the Local Authority.
We currently have opportunities for:
Support Worker – Full Time – 37 Hours per weekSupport Worker – Part Time 0.9 – 33.3 Hours per weekSupport Worker – Part Time – 0.6 – 22.2 Hours per week (12 month Fixed Term Contract - Secondment Opportunity)Applicants for secondment opportunity must seek approval from their line manager before applying.Solihull's Child Asylum & 16+ team and Looked after Children's team provides support to young people who are in the care of the local authority and helps them to prepare for the move to independence. Based at our offices at Chelmunds Place in Chelmsley Wood, we work with both local young people and those young people who are unaccompanied and seeking asylum.
As a Support Worker within OVOS you will be representing the clear statement of Solihull Council's on-going commitment to support young people, to help them develop their voice and contribute to the development of services both within the Local Authority and with other key partners.
As an OVOS Support Worker, you will support the engagement and participation of children and young people who are looked after and care experienced. You will:
work with our children looked after and children experienced young people to organise events, provide support, and to arrange training and development opportunities through OVOS. work directly with young people, helping them to overcome barriers and improve outcomes, to provide them with the skills and confidence to lead a full and active life and help them to reach their full potential. If you are passionate and committed to supporting young people and can understand and promote the importance of being a good corporate parent, then we want to hear from you. To be considered for this post you will need to demonstrate: Level 3 (or above) qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Children, Young People & Families Practitioner) or be able to demonstrate substantial experience in a similar role.You will have experience of working and engaging with children, young people, carers and families and understand the current issues which affect them. Effective communication skills to build relationships with a range of stakeholders in order to promote and develop a range of volunteer and engagement opportunities. You will be required to be part of a rota system, working outside of normal office hours, such as evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the service. In return you will have the opportunity to have a positive impact in shaping the lives of young people whilst working within a committed and supportive team.
