Technologist - Ideal Graduate level role

Witney, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Abbott Laboratories Full time
Bring your passion, ideas and purpose to life in a company that can truly help you achieve your full potential.

With a track record of innovation and development, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems, for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Global Centre of Excellence for Medical Devices based in Witney, Oxfordshire. The site manufactures significant volumes of test strips annually and has also been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the next generation FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, launched in September 2014.

We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate-level Technologist to join our manufacturing and R&D facility in Witney, West Oxfordshire. Working in a small and friendly team, you will be providing technical support to Witney's manufacturing facility. At Abbott, you can work with great people to help our patients and customers live their best lives.

Day-to-day, your work will be to plan and carry out projects and investigations to support manufacturing processes and yield improvements. This may involve projects relating to raw materials, manufacturing processes or finished products, or New Product Introduction. At Abbott, you can shape your career whilst helping to shape the future of healthcare.

You'll need to enjoy interpreting data and writing reports, as a lot of your work will involve analysing results and making recommendations on material, machinery or process improvements.

You will also be given additional responsibility for continuous improvement projects and will be required to provide technical expertise to colleagues in engineering, production and quality. This will include writing technical reports and process documentation.

To be successful, you should ideally have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline, or the equivalent experience. Those with a strong secondary level education and a passion for science are also encouraged to apply. You must also have excellent attention to detail skills, a logical and methodical approach to problem solving, the ability to prioritise and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances or new demands. A lot of your work will involve cross-functional teams, so you'll also need the communication and inter-personal skills to be able to build relationships with colleagues in various departments across the business.

You will be expected to spend time in the manufacturing facility, so will need to have, or be able to develop, good hands-on practical skills. Good IT skills including Excel and PowerPoint are also required for this role.

In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a market-leading defined contribution pension scheme, private healthcare and life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements. At Witney, we also support our employees to live life to the fullest – whether it's joining our couch to 5k team, tending the allotments, learning to be a bee keeper, dropping in for a yoga session, there is plenty going for you to engage with as and when you wish

Your own right to work in the UK

We welcome applications from candidates already eligible to work in the UK or those that can apply for a visa granting permission to work in the UK (e.g. dependent visas, ancestry etc.) that do not require sponsorship from Abbott. You will be asked to share proof of this prior to receiving any offer of employment. W would like to make you aware that if you are made an offer of employment with Abbott you will need to remain on your current visa / permit. If for any reason your visa status changes, we will be unable to offer you sponsorship in the future. In addition, the Company would not fund any subsequent non sponsored visa applications - you will be solely responsible for paying and maintaining your own right to work in the UK. In some instances we may not be able to offer you a permanent contract.

Any employment offer made by Abbott is contingent upon you obtaining and maintaining the right to work and reside legally in the UK. You are required to notify us immediately if your immigration status changes after you have submitted your application.

Graduates

If you are on a Graduate visa, we cannot guarantee you sponsorship from within the UK upon its expiry. Abbott only has a set number of Certificate of Sponsorship applications that can be made each year, which are utilised for highly skilled workers transferring internally. If this limit is reached and other Home Office requirements cannot be met, it will prevent us from being able to sponsor and therefore employ you, unless you are able to secure your own right to work in the UK following the expiry of a Graduate visa.
