The role

The plant molecular and cell biology lab manager will be responsible for operation and maintenance of the plant molecular and cell biology research laboratories, ensuring the smooth functioning of all equipment, managing the ordering of communal supplies and associated budgets, and attending to operational health and safety matters. They will manage a small plant sciences/horticultural technical team.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for training in four core technical areas (plant molecular biology, plant pathology, plant bio-imaging and use of the Wolfson Photosynthesis Suite) to encompass experimental design, implementation and analysis methods as well as the proper use of chemicals and equipment. You will support associated plant science laboratory-based research within the School.

You will be responsible to the school technical manager and for the safe, efficient and effective management of the plant molecular and cell biology research laboratories. You will be line managed by the technical manager and day to day responsibilities will be managed by academic leads responsible for these research areas. You will work closely with core technical staff and academic research staff, research fellows and postdocs, research postgraduates, MSci and BSc students in delivering teaching and research.

You will therefore provide specialist professional and technical advice, direction and input across a range of activities, and will be responsible for managing diverse groups of people.
