Molecular Therapy Advanced Specialist

Job Summary
You will be part of the quality control team.

Your role will have a direct impact on the Clinical Biotechnology Centres (CBC), Cellular and Molecular Therapies functions ability to produce and release gene therapy products for clinical trials.

Main duties of the job
In this role you will provide day to day supervision for several members of staff

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analysing, interpreting, validating and reporting the results of routine and complex investigations, working at the level of responsibility and conduct required of an experienced Senior Scientist.
  • Leading in the management of equipment throughout its life cycle from validation, to calibration and maintenance all the way through to decommissioning of unwanted equipment.
  • Analysing and performing complex testing of advanced molecular therapy products e.g. gene therapy, recombinant proteins, cellbased products using complex scientific equipment such as bioreactors, analytical equipment and microbiology analysis methods. Maintain equipment to the required standards.
  • Leading on continuous improvement events within the department, with the support of laboratory personnel.
  • Becoming the designated owner of the training matrix and organise training to updates within the department
  • Receiving and communicating highly complex and specialist advice to/from internal and external scientists, clinicians, other staff on for example the significance of test results.
  • Ensuring products meet all specifications necessary for patient safety and therapeutic use according to internal and external quality requirements and operating within the boundaries of good manufacturing and laboratory practice.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • In depth knowledge of molecular biology or a complementary science
  • High level of expertise and competency in molecular biology or complementary science area
  • In depth knowledge of the standards of Good Manufacturing Practice and other relevant or statutory guidelines
  • Experience of working in a molecular or testing laboratory performing molecular analysis
  • Expertise in relevant research and development projects

Qualifications and Training

  • MSc or equivalent in cell and molecular therapies or a relevant science
    OR:
  • Equivalent specialist knowledge and experience gained by examination of a professional body
    OR extensive relevant experience
    OR:
  • Completion of a formal postgraduate training programme together with in service experience
