This advanced role will provide expert clinical care to patients requiring level 1-3 care both in the adult Intensive Care Units and Trust wide.

The role involves successfully completing PG Dip Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) and with that extensive training according to the National Competency Framework for ACCPs, to perform advanced clinical skills as required at band 7 whilst in training.


The ACCP is a nationally recognised role and these posts offer an exciting opportunity for professionals with recent intensive care experience to develop their skills further, to perform advanced clinical skills.

ACCPs will work either work on a rota with other ACCPs alongside the medical team or be integrated into the trainee medical rota.

These posts are full time clinical posts during training (2 years) although consideration to flexible working can be made subsequently.


Trainee ACCPs will work in a supernumerary capacity on our training units and receive educational supervision from a FICM approved consultant.

Study leave will be granted to attend essential courses e.g. ALS, transfer training, Masters modules etc.

Planning & Organisation:

The trainee would be expected to be capable of the: planning and organization of a broad range of complex activities or programmes, some of which are ongoing, which require the formulation and adjustment of plans or strategies.


Towards the end of the training the expectation would be they would be able to: formulate long-term, strategic plans, which involve uncertainty and which may impact across the whole organization.
