Senior Lecturer Childhood Studies
The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education offers a diverse range of high-quality courses across contemporary and traditional areas of study in Arts, Humanities and Education. Within the Faculty, the School of Teacher Education is a large academic School that delivers courses in the four discrete, but inter-linked, areas of Primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE), Secondary ITE, Further Education & Skills ITE, and Professional Learning. The School is committed to excellence in teaching, learning and the student experience, as well as growing a positive research and postgraduate culture.
This job is situated within Professional Learning – an area that comprises a range of courses including those in Childhood Studies. The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Professional Learning team to deliver Childhood Studies undergraduate courses, including our Foundation Degree and BA (top-up) Degree in Childhood Studies. All students are employed for a minimum of 15 hours a week, across a wide range of 'childhood' settings, and work directly with children, young people, and families. Teaching is delivered on a weekly basis and predominantly from 5-8pm across a range of locations including our Canterbury and Medway campuses.
Our Childhood Studies portfolio includes a Special Educational Needs specialist pathway, and so we particularly welcome applications from candidates who will enhance the teams' capacity and expertise in Special Education Needs within the context of Childhood Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research in the School of Teacher Education, and for the Senior Lecturer grade it is expected the candidate will undertake a leadership role as determined by the Head of Professional Learning and Head of School.
Applications are welcome from those already working in a higher education context and those looking to transition into higher education from another setting.
How will you work?
We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible and this role is hybrid. Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and across the year but must purposefully align to the service being delivered and to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that the majority of your working time will be spent on campus.
How to apply
Start date for applications: 15th July 2024
Closing date for applications: 1st September 2024
Interviews are to be held: September 2024 (TBA)
If you require further information regarding the post please feel free to contact the Head of Professional Learning (Emily walker-Smith)
