Job Description SummaryAre you ready to take your #engineering career to new heights? We are currently recruiting for exciting new software opportunities on platforms such as the Electrical Power Distribution System for the F-35 Lightning II multirole combat aircraft and the Electronic Circuit Breaker Unit technology refresh for the C-130 Hercules turboprop military transport aircraft. As an experienced Software Engineer, known internally as a Lead Software Engineer, this a great opportunity to join our Power business. Alongside a team of experienced and developing Engineers, you will get hands-on with the whole software lifecycle. You will be responsible for developing and/or verifying safety-critical software for an aircraft electrical power distribution system. You will be passionate about ensuring high-quality software requirements, and relish designing & writing efficient software to meet those requirements and stand the test of time. You will have significant experience of software development and verification & validation, and you will thrive on solving technical problems, in collaboration with other engineering functions. Essential Responsibilities

  • Capturing, understanding and documenting the software requirements
  • Creating, updating and maintaining software architecture and designs for implementation
  • Implementation in the C programming language
  • Implementation in assembler (e.g. ST10 assembler)
  • Understanding and implementing software verification strategies, and creating, updating and performing software tests including in engineering labs on target hardware
  • Investigation and analysis of bugs, plus incorporation of corrective actions
  • Analysis and updating of existing lifecycle artefacts for changes as well as helping to create new lifecycle artefacts
  • Creation and maintenance of traceability
  • Perform configuration control and change control activities
  • Perform baseline management activities
  • Creation / maintenance of other software lifecycle artefacts where required (e.g. SECI, planning documents, change impact analyses, etc)
  • Participation as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews
  • Assuring proper documentation of technical data is generated for the assigned projects and tasks are consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Working to rigorous development standards
  • Delivering on quality, schedule and cost
  • Liaising with other engineering disciplines such as systems engineering, and supporting functions such as quality assurance and safety
  • Contributing to the business's software engineering strategy

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Hands-on experience of software design lifecycle within aerospace, automotive or similar embedded software development environment.
  • Experience creating requirements, architecture/design and implementation of real-time embedded software, and subsequent verification.
  • Experience of RTCA DO-178B/C, DAL level A or B, or similar.
  • Proficiency in C and assembler.
  • Awareness of target hardware.
  • Experience of traceability (creation and management).
  • Experience of configuration control and change control.
  • Experience of baseline management.
  • Ability to execute and solve problems autonomously.
  • A degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent level of knowledge and experience

Desired Characteristics

  • You will be working in a team environment, so good written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Awareness of systems and/or hardware design engineering.
  • Awareness of or experience with target hardware and test equipment / rigs.
  • A general understanding of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Demonstrable success in achieving and exceeding internal customer milestones.
  • Awareness of Agile and Kanban techniques.
  • Awareness of lean methodologies for problem solving.
