2 year contract (until May 2026), and subject to funding may be extended.
About the role:
Would you like to be part of a Landscape Recovery Project on Dartmoorthat aims to deliver a huge increase in the resilience and sustainability for farming, nature and people across a large proportion of the National Park? We are looking for a Farm Conservation Coordinator who will be working with farmers to develop plans to maintain a resilient, profitable farm business via regenerative, low carbon, high nature agricultural management that balances environmental and economic benefits
About you:
The Farm Conservation Coordinator will be working directly with participating farmers and stakeholders, developing integrated farm plans to help deliver environmental and economic resilience to their farms. The post holder will be required to:
- Advise farmers, mostly on a one-to one basis on the opportunities of achieving a resilient, profitable farm business via regenerative, low carbon, high nature agricultural management that balances environmental and economic benefits.
- Utilise, in addition to their own skills, a broad spectrum of existing advice from a range of third parties across Dartmoor.
- Provide advice and support for the establishment of more specific habitats such as meadows, new woodlands, traditional orchards and wetland mosaics, and potential improvements to public access & engagement.
- Utilise farm carbon audits and soil health reports in conjunction with the integrated farm plans, to identify and ensure a synergised approach to future farming and natural capital management.
- Ensure farm plans can work alongside management plans for the Dartmoor Commons they have grazing rights on.
- Assist with coordination of plans between neighbouring farms, and consultation on the proposals.
- Identify existing sources of funding that could help fund changes and identify potential additional work for inclusion in our Landscape Recovery Plan.
The farms in the existing project area have integrated environmental plans which the successful applicant will review and enhance as needed working in conjunction with the Duchy of Cornwall and its Future Farming team to ensure that participating members have a clear vision and plan to move forward with during the delivery phase.
