Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

The Faculty seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor in Performance (0.3 FTE) to act as Deputy to the current Director of Performance, starting on 1st December 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a permanent post.

The appointee will have a high-profile international performing career. Their main specialism will complement that of the Director of Performance and will bring to the Faculty one or more areas of performance specialism that are currently underrepresented within the Cambridge music community. Core expertise in the performance of western classical music is necessary. The appointee will teach Performance seminars and other classes on aspects of performance with relevance to professional practice, mostly but not uniquely within the western art music tradition. They will assist in the organization and delivery of other curricular and extra-curricular activities. This includes curation of established partnerships for offering teaching and chamber-music experience to talented instrumentalists, and curation of the Faculty's collection of instruments. The appointee will, in collaboration with the Director of Performance, chair and moderate the annual recitals (usually around 120 students) and, with administrative support, take on the role of recitals project manager. The role includes outreach work, coordination of Faculty and external performance prizes and nominations, committee and EDI work. The role does not include a research component.

Applicants should be educated to PhD level in Music or have equivalent professional industry experience. They will be performers of high professional standing who have experience of advanced-level performance teaching and are at home with the project management side of a musical career. The appointee will be required to work across a wide range of musical styles, genres, and instrumental/vocal specialisms, to work flexibly with the Director and with administrators, and to make themselves available for concentrated periods during the recitals season (May and June). Applicants with experience in public outreach and community music projects are also especially welcome.

The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1st December 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
