Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

Applications are invited for the position of Senior Radiopharmaceutical Chemist in the Radiopharmaceutical Unit (RPU), Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre, a Major Imaging Research Facility within the Department of Clinical Neurosciences located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The key function of the RPU is to manufacture short-lived radiopharmaceuticals to the high standards of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for the clinical imaging technique of Positron Emission Tomography (PET).

This is a unique role within the RPU, leading on the implementation of new radiopharmaceuticals and supporting the restart and completion of a specific Alzheimer's disease PET radioligand.

You will work within the Production Team and be responsible for the preparation, formulation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals, along with ensuring good radiopharmacy practice and involvement in the management of the GMP radiochemistry laboratories.

In addition, the post holder will perform scheduled radiosynthesis and QC of standard radiopharmaceuticals labelled, either with C-11 or F-18, for PET imaging studies at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre and external groups. This will also involve radionuclide productions with the cyclotron and close liaison with GE concerning all aspects of cyclotron maintenance.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in synthetic chemistry or radiochemistry, experience in PET radiochemistry, asceptic radiopharmaceutical techniques and a good range of aseptic/manufacturing experience, plus knowledge of UK and EU GMP/GLP regulations. The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic team, with the ability to work on your own initiative and organize time & workload accordingly. You will also be motivated, reliable and have good communication skills and excellent record keeping skills.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
