The Role

We are seeking an outstanding individual who is passionate about their discipline, to make an academic contribution in the area of Computing – this can include programming, software engineering, games design/programming, cloud computing, IoT, machine learning and/or AI. We are an applied department of computing, and are looking for a highly technically competent individual to enhance our UG/PG programmes.

You will join a large, growing and vibrant Computing Department that is enthusiastically engaged in both teaching and research. The range of courses and subjects taught will enable myriad opportunities to grow and develop your portfolio of knowledge in the discipline. You will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues whose expert knowledge will have different skills to yourself, providing ongoing support for both yourself and others.

The role is a full-time teaching one.

The Department

The Department of Computing sits within the College of Business, Technology and Engineering (BTE) and consists of 5 subject groups covering Computer Science and Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Computer Networks, Digital Analytics and Technologies, Games and Artificial Intelligence, and Smart Computing. The department has strong links with industry, commerce and the public sector; our courses have been developed alongside professional organisations and in consultation with practicing computing and IT professionals. Most of our undergraduate courses are accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) and several courses have additional, specialist professional accreditations.

Degree Apprenticeship (HDA) courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level were introduced in 2017 and we are looking to actively expand our provision in that area. The Department prides itself on its strength in employability and professional practice and takes a great deal of care in preparing the students for a year of industrial placement, which typically starts at the end of their second year.
