Patient Flow Manager

An opportunity has arisen to join the team of Patient Flow Managers at the Royal Derby Hospital substantively (1 post). Experience of working as a Senior Nurse within the Trust, flexibility and enthusiasm to learn new skills is essential.
You must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
You will be influential in supporting the management teams throughout the Trust to deliver safe and effective operational management of patient flow whilst supporting delivery against the performance targets.
Key responsibilities of the role include providing clinical support to all wards and departments ensuring clinically appropriate patient navigation and timely patient flow and providing late shift, weekend and overnight site support for site management.
You will be committed to maintaining patient's safety, privacy and dignity by being motivated, caring and wanting to make a difference to the patient's experience with a positive attitude.
Act as the duty site manager and work with directorates to resolve issues as they arise. Where appropriate to deal with any Trust wide problems as they arise in order to maintain Business Continuity
Main duties of the job
The Patient Flow Manager has operational responsibility out of hours for coordinating emergency and elective admissions across the Trust, including bed management. The aim is to ensure that patients are assessed and treated in the best place with the best possible experience and that they progress through the pathway at the right time with best possible use of Trust resources.
This Senior Nurse role includes an operational overview for emergency medical admissions and bed management across the medical assessment unit and medical wards. Across other specialties the post holder will be expected to work with and co-ordinate plans with specific bed managers, bleep holders and Matrons or other managers in those areas.
At times of pressure, conflict will arise between emergency and elective admissions when insufficient beds are available. In such circumstances, you will be responsible for implementing a clear plan to manage conflicting demands and minimise risk to patients. This must be done in partnership with directorate management teams. The General Manager for Operations and the Senior Manager on-call will be available to assist and support as necessary.
You will ensure compliance with procedures and targets for patient flow and site management and that escalation plans and contingency plans are followed.
