This is an exciting graduate/early career position to develop skills in planning, delivering and managing cultural learning and participation activities as well as experience in collections and volunteer management. In the first year, the post holder will be mentored and supported by the Heritage Project Manager, and they will collaborate to plan, develop, manage and sustain the heritage activities and resources identified in the Lowestoft Town Hall Action Plan for the target audiences identified.

The candidate will receive specialised training to support their future development and career progression to enable them to lead the delivery of the Activity Plan after their first year.

Subject to performance review, it is anticipated that as the post holder's experience develops, they will take on more responsibilities and the salary will increase to reflect this. The aim is that, once the Town Hall is open, the candidate will be responsible for generating visitor footfall, through the development of an appealing events programme, community and learning activities.

Tasks prior to live opening, in collaboration with the heritage project manager:

  • To support the development and delivery of outreach activities in collaboration with heritage project manager, heritage apprentice, project volunteers and local partners at venues such as the streets of Lowestoft, the beach, community groups and schools, to capture stories for the Lowestoft Stories oral history project and raise awareness about the Town Hall project and upcoming events and activities. This is likely to include lifting and potentially energetic activities.
  • To create resources and procure props for the engagement activities.
  • To collaborate in the development of the Town Hall learning programme based on the Town Hall Heritage Gallery themes.
  • To work as part of the Lowestoft Town Council and project team to develop the collections management policy for the Town Hall.
  • To work as part of the Lowestoft Town Council and project team to develop the digital policy for the Town Hall project, which will adhere to NLHF guidelines.
  • To collaborate on the recruiting of a diverse set of volunteers to assist in the delivery of activities from the delivery through to live running whilst being mindful of the sensitivities of local heritage organisations and ensuring they are not deprived of volunteers
  • To oversee and manage volunteers to digitise LTC's collection including those items stored at Lowestoft Museum, whilst being mindful of the sensitivities of local heritage organisations and ensuring they are not deprived of volunteers.
  • To collaborate in the recruitment of freelance contractors who will collaborate on LTH project activities and oversee the delivery of their work.
  • To collaborate in the delivery of the Contemporary Digital Cultural archive.
  • To attend and represent the Town Hall at relevant local committees and meetings.
  • To support in the recruitment of the Heritage apprentice and manage the apprentice once in post.
  • To collaborate in developing marketing and social media plans and manage the Town Hall social media and online platforms.
  • To work with the Heritage Project Manager and the Evaluation Consultant to ensure data etc is collected for activities.

    Anticipated tasks after year one and once the Town Hall is open:
    • To continue with the Heritage Focus Group to ensure they have input into the Town Hall project, work with them to collaborate on joint events and exhibitions and identify and provide opportunities for skill sharing and training.
    • To provide some limited support to local heritage organisations with their development.
    • To develop marketing and social media plans that reach a diverse range of audiences.
    • Organise and deliver a programme of co-curated changing exhibitions, in collaboration with volunteers, and local partners, in the Town Hall.
    • To manage apprentices, volunteers and work placements including delivering training.
    • To manage the Town Hall heritage visitor offer in live running, including a programme of events and activities specifically for SEND children and adults once the TH reopens.
    • To manage the Activity Programme and budget.
    • To provide update reports and reports, including to NLHF, on progress of Activity Plan and Action Plan delivery, measured against the agreed project timeline, outputs and key dates in the live running of the Town Hall.
