Global Operations and Automation ("GO&A") Technology partners with Global Operations, WPB, MSS, and Wholesale to drive the digitisation of operational activities across the bank through delivering scalable technology and establishing an industry leading business automation framework. The team are truly global: developing and delivering change across all key markets supported by HSBC with a host of leading technologies.

GO&A Technology is accountable for definition and delivery of the strategy, a critical component of HSBC Group CIO's "Vision 27" under the Modern and Simple Architecture ("MASA") stream.

Role Description:

We are recruiting the Head of ; reporting to CIO, Global Operations & Automation Technology. This will be a senior leadership role in the GO&A Technology team, with accountability for the following:

  • Execution - establishing business automation technology as a strategic enabler and technology capability bank wide
  • Automation Product Selection - driving a unified and strategic set of automation capabilities to narrow down product selection and simplify the bank wide technology estate. Acting as the design authority for new entrants and decommissioning and establishing a coherent RPA strategy for the bank
  • Automation Market Place - reusing and scaling existing solutions across the bank in order to: i) reduce the cost of delivery, ii) create economies of scale from multi-tenancy platforms that reduce TCO, iii) connect stakeholders to drive a bank wide business automation tooling strategy and iv) drive innovation and targeted product development
  • STP Execution Framework - driving customer and colleague journey towards STP and driving down cost of integration and enable reuse of API. This will be delivered in collaboration with other Vision 27 Initiatives such as Coreless Foundation, Build Once - Scale Fast, and Application Decom
  • Automation Delivery Model - Design and implement a cohesive automation delivery model across the bank that brings together all of the disparate automation delivery capabilities sitting across Global Business and Global Functions.

In addition to the above, the role holder will be accountable for Partnerships & Innovation; looking up and out or the organisation to ensure that we collaborate with internal & external partners to continually innovate and deliver best in class solutions for our customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities:

Execution:

  • Establish business automation technology as a strategic enabler and technology capability bank wide
  • Converge the business automation operating model and technology provision across the bank
  • Agree programme success metrics and delivery targets multi-year delivery and interlock with key senior stakeholders
  • Enable the Bank Wide Ops transformation leveraging technology expertise - drive efficiency, synergy and standardisation benefits by making world class automation technology easily available Front to Back and across Value Streams

Automation Product Selection:

  • Ensuring consistent usage and user experience of the core automation product set across the bank
  • Driving a unified and strategic set of automation capabilities to narrow down product selection and simplify the bank wide technology estate
  • Reusing and scaling existing solutions across the bank to reduce the cost of delivery and create economies of scale from multi-tenancy platforms that simplify the estate and reduce TCO

Automation Marketplace:

  • Establish Automation Marketplace as the one stop shop bank wide for all Automation capability
  • Building 'ready for use' automation services available for bank wide use, i.e. multi-tenancy operating mode, platform and product service standard in place

STP Execution Framework:

  • Driving customer and colleague journey towards Straight Through Processing (STP)
  • Driving down cost of integration and enable reuse of API
  • Broadening capabilities with Low Cost Rapid Delivery solutions

Partnerships & Innovation:

  • Driving partnerships with technology vendors to influence industry direction to arrive at a set of strategic technology solutions per product stream
  • Driving partnerships with other Heads of Strategy across the GBs/GFs and influence their automation agenda in aligning to our group-wide automation tooling strategy as well as decommissioning strategy of our legacy systems.
  • Staying abreast of technology to drive industry best practices and advise on trends for adoption within GO&A Technology that benefit Technology and the Business

Requirements

Essential Skillset/Experience:

  • Strong experience in Transformation and IT leadership with 'breadth and depth' across IT professions, leading large technology change programmes to deliver digital business benefits and efficiencies
  • Outstanding collaboration skills. A track record of building strong partnership with business and supporting functions.
  • Customer centric, curious and commercially minded, with an eye for the opportunities and benefits that technology can deliver
  • Experience of shaping technology strategy and product roadmap in lockstep with business needs.
  • Experience of incubating new technologies, and building organizational capability and skills required to successfully land software in the organisation
  • Track record of using innovative, and modern approaches to technology delivery. Shaping and modernizing the technology operating model towards i.e. Agile & Devops, no code and citizen development, and 3rd party collaborations.

The role will be based in London but some travel may be required. This role supports Hybrid working (2-3 days in the office per week)
