Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom University of Bristol Full time

The role

This post provides an excellent opportunity for a trainee in Anaesthetics with outstanding potential, to develop a successful academic career within a thriving and supportive environment. The lectureship programme will provide up to four years post-doctoral training to allow the successful applicant to consolidate their career, develop their skills and begin to establish themselves as an independent researcher. The length of the lectureship will depend on the previous experience of the doctor in academic medicine and their planned trajectory towards a postdoctoral or clinician scientist award. The post is available either full-time or part-time; the maximum duration of the post is up to 4 years full-time equivalent but to be completed by a maximum duration of 6 years. The post is aimed at trainees in Anaesthetics at ST4 or above.

What will you be doing?

The successful applicant will split their working week between clinical training in the Severn Deanery and academic work at the University of Bristol appointed at the appropriate point on the relevant University of Bristol Clinical Salary Scale. Within the sessions at the University, the main activity will be research although involvement in teaching will also be encouraged. Time will be divided into blocks of service or research work as most appropriate for the research the appointee plans to pursue. The post provides opportunities for post-higher degree research and facilitates applications for further research funding for post holders working towards completion of specialty training.

You should apply if

The applicant will be eligible for specialty training in Anaesthetics at ST4 level or above. Clinical Lectureship posts are only available to medically qualified candidates. Please note that applications for Academic Clinical Lecturer posts require candidates to hold a current National Training Number (NTN). If a number is not held the candidate would need to clinically benchmark to be able to take up the post. Clinical benchmarking can be achieved through application for specialty training within the national recruitment window where the minimal appointable score must be achieved. Trainees are responsible for ensuring that their clinical application is submitted within the appropriate recruitment round to ensure that they are benchmarked before the date that the post needs to commence. The duration of this Academic Clinical Lectureship will be for a maximum of 4 years or until CCT is reached with 6 months of grace period, whichever is the sooner. During this time the post holder will combine 50% clinical specialty training with 50% academic training. Applicants should have completed, or at least submitted, a higher degree by research by the time of applying for the post (PhD or MD or equivalent), which must have been awarded by the time of taking up the post
