Structural Engineer

Contract

Reading/Hybrid - 3 days per month onsite

Main purpose of the role

Act as specialist for design and implementation related to the specific field of Structural Engineering required to communicate the structural design guidelines to enable deployment of passive infrastructure into the site portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering specialist, in the field of site design, responsible for structural design for both existing and new demand requirements at a national level across the estate.
  • To be design specialist for the field of structural engineering.
  • To act as technical person on all incoming design queries related to structural engineering, resolve with appropriate design guidance or to discuss to specialist within the design team. This includes queries in relation to deployment, sites out of service and maintenance issues.
  • Ensures design standards and solutions are accordance with the appropriate BS EN standard or legislation and that suppliers are aware and uphold these standards.
  • To review and approve design concessions for structural engineering field.
  • To analyse current solutions and develop new products accordingly. Ensures compliance in installation quality and ensure acceptable performance of network sites.
  • To support and contribute actively to health and safety, environmental, business continuity and information security arrangements that meets our obligations to our customers
  • To audit, review and to report on the quality of output from principal designers to the structural engineering manager and HSQE.
  • To assist in all key stakeholders and stakeholder groups who are connected to the design function. This will range from answering site specific queries, presentation design solutions with Vodafone & Telefonica design stakeholders.
  • To plan, scope, cost and define objectives with stakeholders for design related projects. Manage the identification, development, implementation and approval of design solutions specific to this role, including installation, maintenance and H&S investigations. To ensure design projects are delivered on time and to the customer's needs.
  • To proactively identify design and H&S risks, issues and dependencies and subsequently managing their mitigation of resolutions in a timely fashion and risk are highlighted appropriately.

Skills Required for this role:

  • 5 years working in the field of structural engineering. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to qualify/interrogate structural calculations and foundation designs.
  • Have good knowledge of the construction industry, methods of construction and structure installation.
  • Good understanding of the CDM regulations
  • Good knowledge of BS EN standards associated with structural and civil engineering
