MacGregor Black are partnering with a SME consumer goods business on the search for Head of Finance. This is a permanent role based in Newcastle.
As the Head of Finance you will lead the finance function, manage a team of 2 including a fully qualified Finance Manager, and report directly into the MD. You will have the opportunity shape and execute commercial strategy to help the business grow domestically and internationally, while helping to deliver an ambitious omnichannel growth plan through e-commerce growth. The role offers the opportunity for this individual to grow with the business into a more senior finance position.
Responsibilities:
- Manage cash flow processes, including payment approvals and cash flow forecasting.
- Monitor cash flow, identify financial strengths and weaknesses, and suggest corrective measures.
- Prepare Management/Board reports with precise balance sheet and cash flow data, and provide insightful narratives.
- Clearly communicate financial insights to the Board.
- Establish a strong financial control environment with well-documented internal controls.
- Challenge current practices and drive continuous improvement in financial accounting and reporting systems.
- Oversee the month-end close process, including detailed analysis of overheads and balance sheets.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other service providers to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Manage US sales tax and EU VAT compliance.
- Organize and lead the year-end statutory audit process.
- Develop budgets aligned with company goals and monitor departmental performance against budgets.
- Evaluate and advise on potential acquisitions and investments.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, stakeholders, and investors, providing recommendations as needed.
- Guide the senior team in long-term financial and business planning.
- Supervise payroll, VAT, and HMRC processes.
- Enhance the quality and detail of management information, ensuring clear communication of insights to the Board.
What are we looking for:
- Qualified accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA/ICAS).
- Experience in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Strong abilities in financial reporting and strategic planning.
- Extensive technical accounting knowledge.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Xero.
- Effective time management and multitasking abilities.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ERP systems.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and strong work ethic.
