Overview


To carry out a complete overhaul of different valves, actuators and gearboxes unsupervised. To complete valve testing as per required specification. To complete accurate records of work done and work required. The Senior Valve Technician will perform hands on maintenance, troubleshooting, assessment, and repair work on valves based on the associated skill level and travelling to and from Client Sites, including Offshore Locations.


Key Responsibilities


  • Shipping, labour plans, job site walks when required.
  • Work safely and follow Health and Safety policies and procedures in the Workshop and Offshore.
  • Provide technical assistance in the provision of detailed information & specifications as required by the purchasing department for the supply of replacement valves and/or valve related parts.
  • To work unsupervised on/offshore and overseas at short notice.
  • Supervise team of valve technicians and manage work scope offshore/on-site and internationally.
  • Where necessary provide offshore support to other departments within IKM.
  • Competent to strip, assess and assemble all types of valves including ball, Gate, Globe, Check, Control, Parallel Slide, Plug and PSV.
  • Perform detailed reports to management if required.
  • Strip, assess and assemble all types of actuators and gearboxes.
  • Ability to use torqueing equipment.
  • Perform full test (hydro & gas) as per the relevant standard test procedure.
  • Use basic measuring capability.
  • Understanding of relevant international directives such as API, & ISO.
  • Co-ordinate all site work with assigned team to customer requirements and IKM standards.
  • Provide technical support to valve technicians for conducting pre-commissioning checks, removal, repair and testing and reinstallation & commissioning of valves and actuators and other associated equipment.
  • Prepare work-packs for site and workshop activities, including Quality Plans, RACI & Job Cards.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner, including appropriate point of work risk assessment, complete compliance with quality plan requirements, job routing and proactive supervision of valve technicians.
  • Interface with customer plant personnel and valve service personnel to perform hands-on workshop and / or on-site valve troubleshooting / assessment, maintenance, testing (pre/post), and/or repair of valves and actuators.
  • Ability to complete a site survey including all requirements for lifting, access, confined space, COSHH etc.
  • Perform PSV servicing and testing utilising certified test equipment.
  • Complete and or check all QA / QC documentation as required by the verification requirement programme.
  • Perform hands-on workshop and / or onsite disassembly, inspection, reporting, cleaning, and reassembly of valves and actuators.
  • Ensure work and used materials are in compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Read and interpret schematics for assembly, repair, and reassembly as required including completion of applicable quality documentation in either paper or electronic format.
  • Perform failure assessments and make recommendations to the on-site valve service supervisor as required.
  • Coordinate with internal / external resources associated with the repair and/or upgrade of equipment.
  • Prepare and check all detailed inspection reports, including making recommendations for repairs, upgrades and replacement parts requirements.


Requirements

Essential:

  • Educated to Secondary Level
  • Apprenticeship completed within a Valves environment


Preferred:

  • Offshore Survival and Medical Certificates
  • College Education at HNC/HND Level
  • Overhead Crane Certificate
  • Forklift Operation Certificate
  • TMJI Certificates – (Bolting, Torquing & Tensioning)
  • TSBT Certificates – (Small Bore tubing)


Required Experience

  • Must have a sound valve knowledge, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a valve service and or valve manufacturing environment.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of all types of valves and actuator systems.
  • Fully competent to service, repair, test and certify PSV’s.
  • Understanding of pressure and ability to service valves in a production environment.
  • Fully familiar with NBIC, BS, ANSI, API, ASME and ISO Codes, and their applications for all testing, measuring and applicable requirements.
  • Qualified in the ability to repair and recertify Pressure Gauges.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload to maximise efficiency.
  • Additional mechanical skills including but not limited to basic machining.
  • Willingness to train other valve technicians.
  • Excellent communicator to gain confidence of customers and staff alike.
  • Physically fit and capable of working extended hours if required to fulfil the needs of the client.
  • Must have previous experience working in the Oil and Gas industry specifically in the area of valve sales and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate problem solving.
  • Computer literate on MS Office Applications, especially report writing, tender preparation and presentations.
  • Basic understanding of P&ID’s, ability to read and interpret maintenance, repair manuals to use in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical assemblies.
  • On-site and offshore supervisor to manage other members of IKM, control and interface in all aspects of the work scope.
  • Generating service reports and communicate to the company.
