Job Purpose

IT Systems and support lead – We require an IT systems and support lead able to ensure best in class technology support, user training and proactive enhancement to the user technology experience. Working collaboratively with our engineers, supervisors, outsourced IT support, project team and the senior management team you will help our client further grow sustainably and efficiently promoting robust and proactive technology solutions.


Main duties and responsibilities

As our clients IT systems and support lead reporting into the Chief Financial Officer, (“CFO”) you will be responsible for assisting with high quality IT technical support, user training on IT applications and liaising with support partners maintaining and optimising our organisation’s IT infrastructure for its smooth operation. The role requires a combination of IT technical expertise, excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to problem solving whilst actively helping to enhance our technology estate to support our business growth. The main duties include:


In conjunction with support partner’s manage assist in maintaining the organisation’s IT infrastructure, including servers, network devices (tablets / laptops / desktops etc) and systems in line with set SLA’s.

Perform routine system monitoring, analysis and optimisation to ensure high availability and performance together with support partners. Ensure backups and restores are tested at regular intervals with support partners and company devices, servers and computers are up to date at all times, patched on a timely basis and cyber secure.

Assist with the implementation and management of security measures to safeguard the organisation's data and systems and roll out of enhanced security software and tools.

Administer and support the various systems and software including the VOIP phone system, VPN, 365, engineer tablets, laptops and desktops and other cloud/on-premise systems and software applications

Assist in the management of hardware assets, including desktops, laptops, and peripherals, ensuring optimal performance and life cycle.

Provide timely and effective technical support to end-users, resolving hardware, software, and network issues in line with established SLAs, collaborating with other IT partners, including documenting & tracking support requests.

Maintain the technology asset register ensuring it is up to date, equipment is ready on time for new starters and leavers access / equipment is on a timely basis removed from system / returned and secured at the company’s head office.

Proactively promote best technology processes, helping users to fully optimise their technology experience to drive further efficiency and effectiveness in the organisation with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

Proactively drive continuous improvement in terms of technology use and education.

Communicate effectively with all levels of staff in the organisation and external technology support partners with a ‘hands on’ approach where necessary.

Assist with system enhancement and new systems implementation.

Other duties as assigned by the CFO.


Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience in IT systems administration and technical support roles. with good knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, and other common IT tools.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of delivering to tight timescales, and able to multitask effectively.
  • Experience of continuous improvement and able to proactively work with teams to drive value added technology solutions. Improving processes, controls and automation would be beneficial.
  • Able to effectively communicate and train all ranges of technical capabilities in company IT applications and processes, including in cyber safe best practices.
  • Familiarity with network administration, security protocols, and best practices would be beneficial.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) are a plus, but not essential.
  • Some experience of successfully implementing and upgrading finance technology tools would be desirable. (Mid-tier)
  • Strong self-starter with a ‘hands on’ approach, positive attitude, able to successfully organise and structure workload in a fast paced growth environment, constantly able to exceed expectations on delivery.
  • Personal scope for further growth and development in the organisation.
  • Strong personal ethics and integrity.


Salary and benefits

  • Competitive salary relative to experience (PAYE) pro rata.
  • Flexible working hours but for expected initial 24 hours a week with minimum cover across two days / part days in week in order to fulfil core support needs.
