Vallum Associates are currently looking for a Research Analyst to contribute insights and analysis of the shipping and oil markets, working ina small, dedicated Research team in London for one of our clients.


The Role:

As a Research Analyst you will be responsible for management of data systems including fleet and trade data, with a purpose of extracting insights that will be fed to senior management via visual analytic tools, presentations, and reports.


You will be part of a team that works with multiple divisions within the company, including, but not limited to, Chartering, Projects, Corporate Finance and Vessel Performance.

Key Responsibilities:

- Take responsibility for maintaining and developing databases and models covering both the oil and shipping markets

- Extracting information and answering questions from large datasets such as trade movements and fleet utilisation from AIS data

- Provide regular reports on changes in the oil and shipping markets

- Creating visual analytic dashboards for easy analysis of data by superiors

- Create material for internal presentations, external investors and pool partners


Education and Experience:

- 2.1 minimum analytical (STEM, Economics, Business etc) or maritime/oil & energy related degree

- 1-year minimum experience in an analytical environment, ideally shipping or the oil industry


Skills Required:

- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills

- Analytical software/database experience desirable

- Experience or a desire to learn how to use programs such as Tableau and Alteryx

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
