HSB are currently seeking an experienced Non-Executive Director, preferably with experience of working in a complex corporate structure.


To be successful in this role you will demonstrate a strong track record of achievement in more than one organisation at a senior level. Previous experience of working in the Insurance sector is essential for this opportunity. The ideal candidate will be commercially astute, ideally with operational or service delivery experience and the ability to evidence successful execution.


Time Commitment:


Approximately 25 days per year which includes four meetings each of the HSBEIL Board, Audit Committee and Risk Committee, as well as two Remuneration and Nomination Committee meetings each year.


The role played by an iNED of HSBEIL is to:


  • Recognise HSBEIL’s position within the wider corporate structure and provide leadership of the Company within a framework of prudent and effective controls which enable risk and opportunities to be assessed and managed;
  • Facilitate the collective achievement of the Company’s strategic aims and financial targets, having due regard to the strategic framework of the wider HSB/Munich Re Group within which HSBEIL operates, oversee the executive directors in ensuring that the necessary financial and human resources are in place for the Company to meet its objectives, and review management performance; and
  • Safeguard the good name and values of the Company and ensure that its obligations to the regulator and other appropriate parties/stakeholders are understood and met.


The core functions of the iNED of HSBEIL, among others, include:


  • Provide independent judgment, constructive challenge and advice on the company's strategic plans
  • Offer insights on market trends, changes to the regulatory landscape, and the competitive landscape.
  • Ensure that HSB EIL adheres to high standards of corporate governance by providing independent oversight.
  • Ensuring HSBEIL fulfils its obligations under the Consumer Duty by putting the customer at the centre of its decision making
  • Act as a sounding board and mentor for the executive team.
  • Monitor the organisation’s financial performance against targets and adherence to key control framework
  • Attend and contribute to quarterly Board and Committee meetings, offering your expertise to guide strategic decisions.

Knowledge and experience


  • Experienced Non Executive, preferably with experience of complex global corporate structures
  • Track record of achievement in more than one organisation at a senior level with no disciplinary history
  • Experience of the property insurance sector is essential
  • Commercially astute, ideally with operational or service delivery experience and demonstrable evidence of successful execution
  • Ideally holding already holding or have recently held Approved Person status with the Regulator

  • Relevant intellectual ability to enable consideration of complex issues
  • Attention to detail and a sound strategic thinker with the ability to challenge constructively

  • Appreciation of the role of a Non-Executive Director as it relates to a wholly owned regulated subsidiary of a large global group
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
