The Role:

Our client is seeking an experienced Group Legal Counsel to lead the legal and compliance efforts as we navigate the online gambling industry's evolving landscape.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in regulatory compliance, particularly with Curacao/Anjouan-licensed operators, and experience advising on legal risks in different gambling markets. In addition, the role requires expertise in guiding businesses through the transition from pre-regulated to fully regulated markets. You will work closely with senior leadership, managing compliance, legal risks, and B2B provider contracts to ensure our growth while adhering to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Regulatory Compliance Leadership: Develop and implement our legal and compliance strategy, ensuring full compliance with Curacao and other international gambling regulations.
  • Market Risk Assessment: Provide senior management with strategic advice on the risks and benefits of entering new markets, focusing on the legal implications of transitioning from pre-regulated to regulated environments.
  • Transition to Regulated Markets: Lead efforts to ensure smooth transitions from operating in pre-regulated markets to full regulatory compliance as the business expands, advising on licensing procedures, regulatory requirements, and risk management.
  • B2B Provider Contracts: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with B2B providers, ensuring favourable terms while managing legal risks.
  • Cross-Jurisdictional Expertise: Stay updated on gambling regulations in different markets, proactively advising on legal strategies for expansion and compliance.
  • Corporate Governance & Reporting: Ensure the company's governance structures meet legal standards, maintaining accurate records and advising on board reporting requirements.
  • Commercial Agreements & Negotiations: Lead negotiations for key commercial agreements, ensuring terms align with business goals while minimizing risk exposure.
  • Legal Research & Risk Analysis: Conduct comprehensive legal research on relevant regulatory issues and provide actionable insights to internal teams.
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as a key advisor to the executive team, offering strategic legal insights to support our growth in compliance with legal standards.

Qualifications:

  • Law Degree & Licensing: Qualified to practice law in a recognized jurisdiction, with international legal experience preferred.
  • Experience in Online Gambling: 5-7 years of legal experience, with a focus on the online gambling industry, particularly in working with Curacao-licensed operators.
  • Regulatory Transition Expertise: Proven track record in guiding companies through the transition from pre-regulated to fully regulated markets.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of gambling regulations across various markets and the ability to assess and advise on compliance and risk management.
  • B2B Contract Expertise: Strong experience in negotiating B2B contracts, with a focus on mitigating risks while fostering business growth.
  • Risk Management: Ability to assess and manage legal risks, particularly in emerging and regulated gambling markets.
  • Commercial Acumen: A business-minded approach to legal strategy, balancing legal considerations with commercial objectives.
  • Communication & Leadership: Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

This senior role is crucial to our mission to redefine the gambling entertainment industry through innovation. If you are a strategic, creative, and forward-thinking Legal Professional, we invite you to join our team and help shape the future of our brand.
