London Area, United Kingdom FINCA International Full time

About FINCA International

FINCA International is deeply committed to eradicating global poverty by providing sustainable solutions that transform lives. Founded in 1984, FINCA pioneered the idea that small loans could spark lasting change in impoverished communities. For over four decades, we've helped millions of low-income individuals access financial services previously unavailable to them. Understanding that poverty is multidimensional, we focus on improving livelihoods, building resilience against future shocks, and providing access to education for families.

About the Role

The Business Development Officer (BDO) plays a vital role in supporting FINCA's mission through Grants Management and Proposal Development. As a key member of a global Business Development team, the BDO will help manage and develop funding opportunities to strengthen our impact on global financial inclusion.

Grants Management

The BDO will oversee multi-year, high-value grants for technical and government donors, particularly in financial inclusion. Responsibilities include managing grant deliverables and budgets per agreements, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements. The BDO will lead donor reporting, collaborating with internal teams and experts to highlight milestones and outcomes. They will also track grant KPIs, resolve issues as they arise, and adapt plans to meet objectives.

Proposal Development

In addition to grants management, the BDO will lead proposal development. This includes creating compelling proposals, pitch decks, concept notes, budgets, workplans, and capability statements tailored to government, multilateral, and technical donors. The BDO must be adept at communicating complex information clearly and persuasively, ensuring proposals are both accurate and engaging. Collaboration with global teams will be essential to executing FINCA's growth strategy in grants.

Primary Responsibilities – Grants Management

  • Work closely with the Director of Business Development and FINCA Impact Finance staff to manage grants and resolve challenges.
  • Lead the preparation of narrative and financial reports for institutional donors, showcasing milestones and outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain reporting protocols for effective grant execution.
  • Monitor project progress and budget adherence, flagging issues and adjusting plans as needed.
  • Ensure smooth communication with project teams and other departments.
  • Collaborate with communications and research teams to capture key learnings from grants.
  • Contribute to process improvement within the Business Development team.

Secondary Responsibilities – Proposal Writing

  • Develop high-quality concept notes, proposals, and budgets for technical donors, including conducting research and collaborating with experts to shape proposal content.
  • Harmonize proposals written by various contributors to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Revise proposals based on feedback, ensuring alignment with donor expectations.

Competencies

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • High work quality, with attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Problem-solving abilities, with a proactive and adaptable approach to overcoming obstacles.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to manage diverse stakeholders and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Adaptability in fast-paced environments and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Education, Experience, and Skills

  • 5-7 years of experience in developing and managing technical grants, particularly with cross-functional teams. Experience with US Government grants is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with grant compliance and donor regulations (e.g., USAID, EU, UN agencies).
  • A passion for international development and poverty alleviation. Overseas field experience in financial inclusion is an asset.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, international development, or a related field.
  • Experience in a global organization with cultural agility.
  • Ability to accommodate work across different time zones is required
  • Fluency in English and willingness to travel up to 15% internationally, including to challenging environments.
