Key purpose of role  

 

ISTARI has operations in 7 countries (UK, Singapore, Japan, USA, Switzerland, Germany and Norway) and has 10 wholly owned entities within the Group. ISTARI has over $1 billion of Assets Under Management (across a number of portfolio companies and VC investments) as well as a global commercial sales team and a global professional services business. As a result, ISTARI’s finance team requires an experienced Director of FP&A and Commercial Finance for the Group.


Role Profile


Financial Forecasting and Enhancing Performance

  • Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, maintain ISTARI’s long-term financial plan, keeping it updated and developing methods to enhance forecasting
  • Track ISTARI performance against plan and prepare supporting analysis for senior management
  • Develop a deep understanding of the financial performance of ISTARI by owning, maintaining and updating the respective financial models, analysing key drivers of performance, tracking performance vs plan and surfacing key issues to ISTARI management
  • Identify and execute performance enhancement initiatives
  • Work with Temasek’s PDG team to ensure Temasek is updated on ISTARI and ISTARI portfolio performance on a regular basis
  • Ensure that Group cashflow is forecast and understood to ensure that the Group manages liquidity appropriately
  • Develop forecasting systems and processes to improve the Group’s ability to forecast KPIs, cash, revenue, costs and key balance sheet areas


Delivering Commercial expertise to the Group

  • Create a high quality and optimal financial forecasting environment across the Group
  • Knowledgeable about systems and processes and capable of delivering efficiencies and improvements
  • Driver of change, including ensuring that commercial deals within the group are commercially structured and in compliance with group policies and best practices
  • Working closely with the Group Financial Controller to ensure that business planning and controllership are closely aligned
  • Deputise for the Group CFO when required


Annual Investment Performance Evaluation

  • Assist the portfolio team with engaging the external valuer for annual valuation of the portfolio and in conjunction with the Group Financial Controller ensuring that these are incorporated into financial reporting appropriately.


Performance metrics

  • Accurate and timely analysis of quarterly performance for parent reporting
  • Accurate and timely monthly analysis of group financial performance, including revenues, margins, overheads and profitability
  • Analysis of sources and uses of cash, ensuring cashflow from operating activities is analysed, understood and validated against forecast
  • Insightful feedback on commercial deals, ensuring these are contracted in line with ISTARI’s policies and commercial objectives


Candidate profile


Ideal candidate background and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience
  • Strong academic background ideally with an accounting qualification
  • Global company experience, particularly covering finance for multiple countries and currencies
  • Experience of multiple GAAPs, including US GAAP and IFRS
  • Strong understanding of and experience with analysis of consolidated complex international groups
  • Prior experience in using and developing financial analysis systems
  • Experience of Google/ microsoft tools


Key skills

  • Ability to work independently to analyse, interrogate and manipulate financial forecasts at both the portfolio company and ISTARI level
  • Strong financial modelling skills, familiarity with financial statement analysis and accounting and finance fundamentals
  • High degree of commercial acumen, able to assess financial information against strategic priorities, operational realities and ISTARI’s investment thesis
  • High degree of comfort with presenting and interacting with senior stakeholders across organisations (e.g. ISTARI, ISTARI’s shareholder, commercial team members, portfolio companies)
  • Able to work cross-culturally in fast-paced, unstructured team environments
  • Minimum 3-4 years corporate finance experience gained through private equity, investment banking, big 4 accountancy, corporate M&A / development / FP&A or similar roles
