Senior Planning Officer

Main Responsibilities:
To deputise for the Development Control Team Leader in his/her absence as required by the Development Manager.
To personally handle a varied caseload including the more complex and major development applications and appeals, preparing reports which are clear, accurate and technically correct.
To ensure planning applications and appeals are determined in accordance with service and business plan targets - and are in accordance with relevant planning guidance and legislation.
To prepare reports and make recommendations to client Committees and on matters to be decided under delegated powers - including presenting reports as appropriate.
To prepare and present evidence at appeals/public inquiries as required.
To keep abreast of, and advise others in the Section on, changing legislation, circulars and good planning practice relating to development control and to ensure continued personal and professional development to meeting changing demands on the service.
To assist and support the Technical Assistants as necessary in order to enable the team to meet service and business plan targets. To give training and support to team members as required by the Development Control Team Leader/Development Manager.
