Location: Hybrid (2-3 days in London)

Rate: £500 - £550 Inside IR35

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: Initial 6 months

Clearance: Candidates must have SC clearance


A leading technology company is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test to join their dynamic tech team. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in BDD, automation testing, Agile (Scrum), and scripting.


Key Responsibilities:

The Software Development Engineer in Test will collaborate with the product team to define acceptance criteria and testing Definition of Done (DoD) for each user story. They will pair with developers to establish the necessary tests for product features at both the unit and component levels. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Performing exploratory testing at all levels.
  • Automating tests as needed.
  • Designing and testing stubs in collaboration with developers.
  • Validating non-functional requirements (NFRs) at appropriate levels.
  • Ensuring traceability is maintained throughout product delivery.
  • Raising awareness of quality throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Contributing to the design and development of automated tests for adequate coverage.
  • Providing test assurance for user stories based on acceptance criteria in a test-first environment.
  • Engaging in estimation activities and identifying opportunities for maximizing test benefits.
  • Supporting best practices in test strategy during retrospectives and planning sessions.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a Software Development Engineer in Test .
  • Proficiency in API testing and experience with Postman.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Cypress, Selenium, and Cucumber.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and their role in the automation testing process.
  • Exposure to command line and scripting languages on either Windows or Linux.
  • Solid coding skills, understanding SOLID principles, Dependency Injection, and Design Patterns.
  • Experience with tools like Jenkins, SonarQube, and Jira.


Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of PACT frameworks for Consumer Driven Contract testing.
  • Experience with advanced DevOps practices and Agile development.
  • Ability to lead projects and design test strategies.
